I found a program tha worked directly with the sound card hardware and the sound card wa working, but nothing that used the sound card drivers worked. Long version: All of a sudden yesterday I had no sound on my three-year-old Thinkpad X40 (XP Pro SP2). see here It took a long time t come up with this solution. It detects the card but fails the Windows multimedia and Directsound tests. You may need to restart the computer.
